This is another one of those situations where I normally keep my counsel. IMHO, everything that could be said about this author has been, at least, about the situation itself and the people she hurt. It’s hard not to at least speak of her once when she seems to be in EVERY NEWS OUTLET in the USA. You couldn’t buy this kind of publicity. Well, you could buy some of it, but that’s not the point. What angers me is that myself and authors like me would give almost anything to have this much attention on our careers. Well, not for the same reasons, of course. It’s infuriating on so many levels. And I’d never heard of this person until she started appearing continually on my news feeds. Her husband is now trying to shoulder all the blame.
At least her plan backfired. People won’t be buying her books. Um… you’re not buying her books, are you? Please tell me you’re not buying her books!
I believe we have focused enough attention on Susan Meachen. Which, from what I’m understanding, she wanted because her books aren’t selling. One article mentioned her books aren’t very good. I don’t know. But if that’s the case, what she should have done is take some courses, attended seminars and workshops and find a beta reader. Or get a literary agent. We, as authors, must continue to learn and improve our craft. Not concoct some mad scheme like a DC/Marvel Supervillain. This is how we do it.
So all you media outlets out there, try turning your attention to all the honest, hardworking authors of every genre and how we’re doing things the right way.
Peace~
